Dental veneers are a popular cosmetic treatment option for patients of Main Street Dental Arts.

This device, also called a porcelain veneer, is as thin as a wafer and constructed from ceramic laminates. You may be a good candidate for the procedure if you have any of the following issues:

  • Chipped teeth
  • A wide gap between two teeth
  • Permanent brown or yellow staining on your teeth
  • A crack in one or more of your teeth

One of the major benefits of dental veneers is that the dentist can match them to the shade and coloring of your existing teeth to make your dental work appear as natural as possible. Even if you meet the above criteria, you need to have good oral health before we can place the veneer. All of your teeth, not just the one receiving the treatment, should generally be healthy. In some situations, patients may require a porcelain crown or another dental procedure to give the tooth added protection.

How it Works

Receiving a dental veneer typically requires two separate appointments. During the first one, the dentist removes approximately one-eighth of a millimeter of enamel from the tooth receiving the veneer. This prevents your treated tooth from protruding further than your other teeth once the dental veneer is in place. For the next step, we take an impression of the affected tooth and then forward the information to our dental laboratory. The technicians there fabricate your new permanent veneer and send it back around two weeks later. We can provide you with a temporary tooth covering in the meantime if desired.

When you return for your second appointment, you and the dentist look over the dental veneer to make sure that the color shade and shape are both acceptable. Our dental hygienist then cleans and polishes your teeth before she places bonding cement on the tooth that is receiving the veneer. The last step involves using a dental curing light to harden the cement and affix your new veneer in its permanent position.
